Abstract

The monolithic column is a single piece of a continuous rigid porous polymer that possess an interconnected skeletal structure and contains pores. According to their components, monolithic materials can be divided into organic polymer-based monoliths and inorganic silica-based monoliths. This review focuses on silica-based monolith with special emphasis on the preparation. Moreover, this review attempts to give an overview covering the modification of the surface of the inorganic monolithic materials. The applications of the silica-based monoliths as a sorbent in different applications are included in this review.
