Abstract

In this Project a comparative study and an experimental investigation was performed on a single PEM fuel cell made with conventional hot-pressed MEA and catalyst-coated membrane (CCM) under identical conditions of Pt electro catalyst loadings. Initially a single cell 5 layer MEA was prepared by the conventional hot-pressed method using Pt/C as the catalyst Material. The catalyst was synthesized as per the procedures and coated onto the carbon paper of the MEA and the result (Power Density and Current Density) is obtained. The same catalyst is coated directly on the membrane by CCM method to prepare the 3 Layer MEA. The result is yet to be obtained. Both the results are to be compared to find the better method which has higher electrochemical surface area and higher current density and power density.
