Abstract

Natural fibres as reinforcement in polymer composite for making low-cost material are growing day by day. Natural fibres offer several benefits such as low density, environmental friendly and high specific mechanical performance. This particular work is carried out to find out hardness, Impact and water absorption of natural fibres (kenaf and flax) mat reinforced epoxy composite. This composite is prepared by using Hand lay-up method the biaxial mats of natural fibres and epoxy resin in a mould and cured under gradual pressure. It is found that the composite of (kenaf/flax/kenaf) mat of natural fibres gives better Hardness, Impact and water absorption properties in comparisons to (glass/flax/glass) mat of natural fibres. Sample was prepared and tested accordance to the ASTM standards. Critical properties of the fabricated material of natural fibre such as hardness, Impact and water absorption test are experimentally concluded and results are recorded of reinforced hybrid epoxy composite in the mat form are increasing and it is found to be maximum at 40% by wt. of mats.
