Prajapati propounded in Shatapatha Brahmin : A Study

Abstract

The Shatapatha Brahmin is the largest among all the Brahmin texts. It is available in both branches of Shukla Yajurveda, Madhyandin and Karma. Its prose text is also akin to that of the two-tier Brahmin. Shatapatha is believed to be Yajnavalkya, the son of Vajasani, the creator of the Brahmin. Regarding Vajasani, Sayan has written that he was famous as Annadata (Vaja-Anna, Sani-gata). He is called ‘Vajasaneyi’ because he is the son of Vajasani. There are 100 chapters in Shatapatha Brahmin and hence it is called ‘Shatapatha’.
