Abstract

There are eight parts of yoga practice. Pranayama is the fourth step. Pranayama is followed by pratyahara concepts, dhyana and samadhi are mental means. Pranayama is the medium between the two types of sadhna i.e. it is physical as well as mental. With Pranayama, both the body and the mind are healthy and pure. Pranayama is the science of controlling and regulating the breath. When we are angry, our mother-in-law moves in a different way and when we are calm and compassionate, the rhythm of our breathing changes. With the advent of different emotions like sorrow, sadness, joy, the rhythm and speed of breathing keeps on increasing and decreasing.
