Abstract

This project aims at developing a robot to perform effective inspections and maintenance of electricity transmission lines. A robot is designed to autonomously move through the various types of power lines, such as conductor cables, transmission towers and insulators. The system has a range of sensors and perception systems that allow it to collect information about the condition of electric transmission lines, for example by means of visible inspection capabilities, temperature detections or voltage monitoring. For the detection and localization of faults such as broken cables, insulators or electrical abnormalities, collected data shall be processed by means of advanced signal processing techniques and machine learning algorithms. The robot's control system allows her to navigate through the power line and make real time decisions based on data collected. Energy management, using energy saving techniques from electricity lines and the use of effective battery management systems in order to extend robot's service life is also part of this project. The proposed Transmission Line Robots aim at reducing reliance on manual inspection and maintenance procedures, ensuring the safety of workers as well as improving the efficiency and reliability of power transmission infrastructure.
