Perhaps the most promising option instead of renting a physical office space is a virtual office, given its low cost and care for the environment. Many businesses are looking at different levels of virtuality or remote working—working from home—facilitated by technology in order to meet their goals. In order to maximize incentives for both the workers and the organization, managers must choose when, where, and for whom such virtuality is suitable. This essay examines the difficulties managers face while setting up remote teams or offices. It implies that more than just technology is needed for virtual workplaces to be successful. They demand whole new methods for organizing, training, assessing, and informing employees. The true difficulty in optimizing the virtual experience is in creating the organizational structure and procedures necessary to meet predetermined objectives.
